A United States District Court has reportedly certified the extradition of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, following a request by the Government of Ghana in connection with her conviction for offences involving financial loss to the state.
The ruling was issued by a court in Nevada after Ghana formally sought her extradition in 2025. The request followed her failure to return to Ghana after being granted permission in 2021 to travel to the United States for medical treatment.
In 2024, the Accra High Court convicted Attionu in absentia and sentenced her to 10 years’ imprisonment for causing financial loss of approximately GH¢90 million to the state during her tenure as MASLOC CEO between 2013 and 2016.
Following her non-return, Ghanaian authorities initiated extradition proceedings, leading to the US court’s review of the case.
The US District Court found that the legal requirements for extradition had been met and certified her surrender. The court also ordered that she be held in the custody of the United States Marshal pending a final decision by the US Secretary of State.
In its ruling, the court stated: “Therefore, pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 3184, the above findings, the Court certifies the extradition of Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu… and commits Attionu to the custody of the United States Marshal pending further decision on extradition and surrender by the Secretary of State pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 3186.”
She faces multiple charges under Ghanaian law, including stealing, conspiracy to steal, willfully causing financial loss to the state, conspiracy to cause financial loss, causing loss to public property, and money laundering.
