WAEC releases 2026 BECE provisional results, queries over 700 candidates’ results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates, while sanctioning hundreds of candidates for examination malpractice.

In a statement issued on July 29, 2026, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, said the results would be forwarded to candidates’ respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates may also access their results online via the Council’s official website.

A total of 620,243 candidates, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 participating schools, registered for the examination.

The figure includes 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 candidates with hearing assessment needs and 510 candidates who required other forms of test accommodation. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 3,601 registered candidates absent.

Following investigations into cases of examination irregularities, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee, at its 37th meeting held on July 21, 2026, approved a number of sanctions. WAEC cancelled the subject results of 496 candidates and the entire results of 105 candidates. It also withheld the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates.

Additionally, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further investigations. According to the Council, the withheld results may either be released or cancelled by August 31, 2026, depending on the outcome of the investigations.

WAEC advised candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld to visit https://irreg.waecgh.org to access details of their cases and the appropriate next steps. School heads and proprietors may also monitor the status of withheld results through their designated results portal.

The Council further cautioned candidates and the public against individuals who claim they can upgrade examination results in exchange for payment, stressing that its results are secure and can be authenticated.
