2024 Elections: NPP and NDC set to hold final rallies in Accra

Political activities for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections will wrap up today, December 5, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) holding their final rallies in Accra.

The NPP will gather at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, while the NDC will host theirs at Zurak Park in Madina.

These rallies will feature key party figures making final appeals to voters ahead of the polls scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024.

On Monday, special voters across 14 regions cast their ballots at designated polling stations. However, due to defacement issues on some ballot papers, special voters in the Eastern and Western Regions will cast their votes today, December 5, following a recall and reprint of the affected ballots by the Electoral Commission.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public of comprehensive security measures for the rallies and the elections. ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Public Affairs Officer of the Police Service, outlined traffic arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of supporters and other road users.

For NPP supporters travelling to the University of Ghana Sports Complex, those coming from Adentan are advised to use the left side of Ritz Junction, proceed through the University of Professional Studies, and continue to the venue. Supporters from Haatso are encouraged to pass through GIMPA and exit at Legon.

NDC supporters heading to Zurak Park in Madina are advised to avoid major roads, including the Shiashie-Okponglo stretch, to minimise congestion.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi noted that some roads around the rally venues will be temporarily closed and urged the public to cooperate with the police.

“We encourage party supporters travelling in groups to adhere to the designated routes for smooth movement and to reduce traffic disruptions,” she said.

The police have called on all participants to maintain peace during the rallies and the upcoming elections, emphasising their commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly process.
