The former Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana Ltd. (formerly Barclays), Abena Osei-Poku, has joined Ecobank Ghana Limited as its Managing Director.

Mrs. Osei-Poku has also been appointed Regional Executive for Anglogold West Africa (AWA) of the Pan-African Bank.

She replaces Daniel Sackey, who retired from Ecobank Ghana in August 2023.

“Join us in welcoming our new Managing Director and the Regional Executive for Anglophone West Africa (AWA), Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku! We’re excited to work with her to create the next chapter of our story,” the official social media accounts of Ecobank Ghana announced on Friday, January 5, 2024.

Prior to taking on her new position, Mrs. Osei-Poku had been the MD of Absa since September 2018. Her previous employment was with Absa in South Africa, where she held the position of managing director and was in charge of corporate and investment banking for both East and West Africa.

She began working in banking in 2002 and spent seven years at Standard Chartered Bank.

She changed banks to Barclays Bank in 2009. The remaining nine years were spent in South Africa, where she worked as an executive of the Barclays Africa Group, overseeing activities in Africa outside of South Africa.

In 2020, Abena is reputed to have led the transformation of Barclays Bank Ghana to Absa Bank Ghana.
