A Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo, has expressed his profound gratitude to ADB Bank Plc for being the lead sponsor of this year’s National Farmers Day celebration.

According to him, the bank’s generous donation has come as a surprise to the Ministry, considering the current financial challenges that the country is facing.

ADB Bank Plc (previously Agricultural Development Bank) has offered to support the ministry with an amount of GHC 1,000,000 for the 2023 edition of the National Farmers Day Celebration scheduled for December 1 in Tarkwa.

Speaking to the media during a brief ceremony to receive the donation from the bank, Mr. Frimpong Addo said that this year’s celebration is going to be unique in that it will be held in an enclosed space.

He said there will be a major exhibition dubbed “Agrifest” around the Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries, including stands for financial institutions to educate farmers on financial management and assist them with funding.

Mr. Frimpong Addo stated that for the first time in history, farmers are going to sell their produce to buyers at the full sale price. He encouraged Ghanaians to patronise the items of the exhibitors to motivate them.

“We have done lots of consultations with other institutions, such as the Ghana Police and Accra Metroplitan Assembly, and we have arrived at having an exhibition here at the forecourt of the Ministry on the 27th of November, 2023”, the Deputy Minister revealed.

“[It’s] a 5-day programme. Those to exhibit are organisations and people whose work is dependent on agriculture. Farmers from across the sixteen regions would be given the privilege to exhibit their produce,” he added.

Hon. Frimpong Addo furthered that there would be a special desk provided for participants to be educated on phase 2 “Planting for Food and Jobs”, which programme he said was going to be very successful.
