The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over what he describes as the “unwarranted arrest and incarceration” of former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.
In a social media statement issued on May 6, 2026, the Effutu MP alleged that the couple’s re-arrest on May 5 followed the withdrawal of charges in an ongoing case, raising concerns about due process.
He argued that the prosecution’s case had earlier been weakened after objections by defence counsel were upheld in court, adding that the Attorney-General subsequently withdrew all charges. “One would have thought that EOCO would step back, conduct more thorough investigations… before deciding whether to charge the accused persons again or not,” he stated.
According to him, EOCO instead “re-arrested Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife for offences unknown to even his legal team,” and has since denied them bail despite previously being granted bail by the court.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin further claimed that lawyers representing the accused persons were denied access to their client for several hours, describing the situation as “very shameful, reprehensible and most unworthy of a healthy democracy.”
He accused the government of using law enforcement processes as “a propagandist machinery… by arresting and detaining leading members of the opposition,” and called for an immediate reversal of the action.
“I call on EOCO and the Attorney-General to release Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife… This impunity must stop,” he said.
