The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has appointed the four contenders he defeated in the party’s presidential primaries as co-chairmen of newly established policy committees.
The appointments form part of a broader policy committee framework introduced by the NPP leadership to coordinate research and develop sector-based policy proposals across key areas of governance and the economy.
The overarching NPP Policy Committee will be chaired by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, while Kwasi Nyame Baafi will serve as secretary.
According to party sources, the structure is intended to support the development of evidence-based policy alternatives and position the NPP as an active opposition party focused on governance preparation.
The sectoral committees cover areas including employment, energy, education, health, roads and transport, decentralisation, housing, defence, and natural resources.
Under the arrangement, Kennedy Agyapong has been named co-chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee, while Kwabena Agyepong will co-chair the Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee.
Bryan Acheampong has been assigned to co-chair the Defence and Interior Policy Committee, with Yaw Osei Adutwum serving as co-chairman of the Education Policy Committee.
Political analysts say the appointments may help ease post-primary tensions within the NPP by integrating key figures from the internal contest into prominent roles within the party’s organisational structure.
Party officials indicated that the committees are expected to begin work in the coming days, including stakeholder consultations and the preparation of policy briefs.
