The aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Agyarko, has held a meeting with the Northern Regional Council of Elders and Patrons as part of his ongoing stakeholder consultations ahead of the party’s internal reorganisation.
The engagement formed part of his broader campaign to strengthen internal cohesion within the party and rebuild trust at all levels of the political structure.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Agyarko acknowledged what he described as widespread dissatisfaction among party members across various levels of the organisation.
“Many of our members, from the polling station level to the national level, remain dissatisfied,” he said. “We must reconnect with our grassroots, engage our people meaningfully, and where necessary, offer apologies and move forward in unity.”
He emphasised that internal reconciliation and renewed engagement with the grassroots would be central to restoring confidence in the party’s structures and improving its electoral fortunes.
According to him, discipline within the party remains a critical concern that must be urgently addressed if the NPP is to remain competitive going into future elections.
“We must also confront the issue of indiscipline that is affecting our progress,” he stated. “Our elders and patrons have a key role to play in guiding the party and helping to restore order and unity.”
Mr. Agyarko appealed to the Council of Elders and Patrons to take a more active role in resolving internal disputes and strengthening cohesion within the party.
He assured the leadership of the Council that, under his chairmanship, their counsel and experience would be highly valued in decision-making and conflict resolution.
“I will rely heavily on the wisdom and experience of our elders at all levels to resolve disputes and strengthen unity within the party,” he said.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the party’s leadership, particularly its flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
“In unity with our flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, we will work to secure a decisive victory for the NPP in 2028,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to the Northern Regional Council of Elders and Patrons for their reception, counsel, and engagement, describing the interaction as productive and encouraging.
The meeting is part of a wider series of consultations Mr. Agyarko is undertaking with key stakeholders of the party as he seeks to build support for his bid for the National Chairmanship of the NPP.
