The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on November 7, 2024, citing the government’s delay in implementing a new salary structure for its members.

CLOGSAG had previously issued a warning on October 22, 2024, which led to discussions with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to finalise a new pay structure by October 30, 2024.

The strike declaration follows what CLOGSAG describes as the failure of FWSC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Benjamin Arthur, to uphold the terms agreed upon between the two organisations.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 4, 2024, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, expressed concerns about the feasibility of FWSC’s proposed January 1, 2025, implementation date for the new salary structure.

Due to these delays, Addo declared that CLOGSAG would discontinue further engagements with FWSC’s CEO, citing his alleged failure to act in good faith.

“As a result of the prolonged delay in finalising a New Salary Structure and other Conditions of Service for the staff of Civil and Local Government Service, CLOGSAG has no option but to instruct our members to stay at home on Thursday, November 7,” he stated.

“Henceforth, CLOGSAG has decided to disengage from any dealings with the Chief Executive of FWSC, Mr. Benjamin Arthur, due to his continued actions in bad faith,” Addo emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has urged the Civil and Local Governance Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to reconsider its planned strike on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

In a statement, FWSC emphasized the government’s readiness to engage with CLOGSAG to find lasting solutions to their concerns without compromising the principles of the Single Spine Pay Policy. “We therefore encourage CLOGSAG to abandon the strike action and return to the negotiating table for a swift resolution,” the statement noted.
