The Ghana Education Service has praised renowned businessman and philanthropist Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong for donating a modern 600-bed dormitory facility to Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, describing the gesture as a major boost to secondary education infrastructure in the country.

Dr Ofori Sarpong, an alumnus of the prestigious institution, currently serves as Board Chairman of the school and Global President of its Alumni Association. According to the GES, the donation was made in appreciation of the discipline, values, and academic training he received during his time at the school.

The newly constructed facility is expected to significantly ease accommodation challenges and reduce congestion in boarding houses, while supporting ongoing government efforts to expand access to quality secondary education.

In a statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES noted that old students’ associations continue to play an increasingly important role in Ghana’s education sector through infrastructure support, scholarships, mentorship programmes, and institutional governance.

“Their sustained involvement strengthens the capacity of schools to deliver holistic and competitive education,” the statement said.

Management of the GES commended Dr Ofori Sarpong for what it described as an exemplary contribution to national development and called on other alumni groups and individuals to emulate such acts of generosity toward their former schools.

The Service further assured the donor and the public that it would work closely with school authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the proper maintenance and effective utilisation of the facility for the benefit of both present and future students.

The donation, according to the GES, underscores the enduring bond between educational institutions and their alumni, while highlighting the transformative impact collective responsibility can have on improving teaching and learning conditions across the country.
