The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that government has approved the payment of outstanding salary arrears to eligible staff, covering a period from August 2024 to November 2025.

In a directive issued from its headquarters in Accra and dated April 20, 2026, the Service disclosed that the approval was granted by the Ministry of Finance, following correspondence with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).

“Management of the Ghana Education Service hereby informs all Regional Directors that approval has been granted by the Ministry of Finance for the payment of salary arrears by CAGD to eligible staff of GES from 1st August 2024 to November 2025,” the statement said.

According to the GES, the arrears will be disbursed in five instalments beginning May 2026. Each tranche will cover four months of arrears, with payments scheduled to run consecutively from May through August.

The directive, signed by Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi, urged all Regional Directors to ensure that the information is communicated swiftly to heads of schools across the country.

“You are kindly requested to promptly convey this information to all Heads of Schools, to ensure that all eligible staff are duly informed accordingly,” the statement added.

The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff who have been awaiting the clearance of outstanding salary obligations tied to the utilization of the 2024 financial clearance.
