Amid mounting concerns over food shortages in second-cycle institutions, the Ghana Education Service (GES) says authorities have released funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit on April 20, 2026, the Service said the funds have been made available to address delays in the supply of essential food items to second-cycle institutions.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform the general public, particularly stakeholders in the education sector, that the outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High/Technical Schools across the country have been released to the Service,” the statement noted.
According to the GES, processes are already underway to ensure the timely and efficient disbursement of the funds to beneficiary schools across the country. The Service added that internal mechanisms have been activated to facilitate smooth distribution and prevent further disruptions in food supply.
To safeguard the use of the funds, the GES emphasised that strict monitoring and accountability measures have been instituted to ensure proper utilisation.
“Monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the funds are utilised judiciously and solely for their intended purpose,” the statement added.
Head of Public Relations at the GES, Daniel Fenyi, who signed the release, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to student welfare and the continuous delivery of quality education.
The development follows recent concerns raised by some heads of Senior High Schools over delays in the release of funds for food supplies, with reports indicating that a few institutions had threatened to suspend school activities if the situation persisted.
