Mahama meets clergy: Owusu-Bempah endorses NDC for 2024 elections?

Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, the senior pastor of Glorious Word Power Ministries International and a known sympathiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has predicted a victory for National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2024 general elections.

On Tuesday, 1st October 2024, Rev. Owusu-Bempah, along with other prominent clergy members, met with the former president and made the prediction during a prayer session.

During his prayer, Rev. Owusu Bempah stated, “Because of your kind-heartedness God has handed over the country to you and nothing can change it.”

“This is whom you have elected to lead Ghana at a time like this. No power can stop it. It is through you that this country will see development.” His words were met with enthusiastic responses of “amen” from some of the assembled ministers.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Mahama expressed gratitude to the clergy for their support and noted that the time was right for him to assume leadership, accusing the NPP of mismanaging the economy. “It is time for a reset,” he said, emphasising that his administration would steer the country towards growth and stability.

Prominent religious leaders in attendance included Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Ghana; Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost; and Apostle-General Sam Korankye Ankrah of Royal House Chapel.

Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s endorsement has ignited debates on social media, with NPP supporters dismissing his prediction, while NDC members have embraced it as a divine affirmation of Mahama’s candidacy.

The outspoken minister is well-known for his predictions on national and international elections, although his forecast for Donald Trump’s victory in the 2020 U.S. elections did not come to pass.
