The United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation Africa (UNPAF Africa) has commissioned Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell as a member of its Africa Advisory Board, describing the appointment as a significant step in strengthening its peacebuilding and community development agenda across the continent.
The commissioning took place during the foundation’s General Assembly Conference Meeting held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the RIDMA Hotel in Weija, Accra.
The conference was attended by chiefs, queenmothers, youth leaders, security agencies, diplomats and development partners under the theme, “Together for Peace. Together for Africa. Together for Development.”
UNPAF Africa said the gathering also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting collaboration among traditional authorities, state institutions and civil society in advancing peace and sustainable development.
A key focus of the meeting was the launch of the foundation’s “Homowo Peace & Security Network,” an initiative aimed at enhancing safety before, during and after the 2026 Homowo Festival.
The initiative seeks to bring together traditional leaders, civic organisations and emergency service providers to strengthen community preparedness and security.
Representatives from the Weija Gbawe Municipal Fire Service, the Weija Gbawe District Police Command and the Weija Gbawe Municipal Ambulance Service participated in the conference, underscoring the collaborative approach being adopted for the initiative.
UNPAF Africa said Rev. Fr. Campbell’s appointment recognises his longstanding contributions to peacebuilding, interfaith dialogue and community development in Ghana and across Africa.
In his new role, he is expected to provide strategic guidance and advocate for the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, as well as the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Founder and Africa Executive Chairman of UNPAF Africa, HRM Ambassador Nana Sultan Adamu Mohammed, said the priest’s experience and commitment to service would strengthen the foundation’s mission.
“Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell’s life of service to God, humanity, and peace makes him a natural fit for UNPAF’s mission. His voice will help us build bridges across faiths, ethnicities, and generations as we launch the ‘Homowo Peace & Security Network’ for a safer Homowo 2026 and beyond,” he said.
The foundation expressed optimism that the advisory board’s expanded expertise would help deepen partnerships and support efforts to promote peace, justice and inclusive development across Africa.
