The University of Ghana (UG) has engaged a group of students planning a demonstration over their concerns, assuring them of management’s commitment to addressing students’ immediate, medium-term and long-term needs, including accommodation.
In a notice dated October 28, 2026, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs said the organisers had been advised to suspend the proposed demonstration while engagements with university management and other stakeholders continued.
“The Dean of Student Affairs has subsequently engaged the group on their concerns and assured them of Management’s commitment to addressing the immediate, middle-term, and long-term needs of students; including accommodation,” the notice stated.
The university did not disclose the specific concerns raised by the students or indicate when the proposed demonstration was expected to take place.
The notice, signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, urged the organisers to allow the ongoing engagements to proceed as management and relevant stakeholders work towards addressing the issues raised.
The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs also reminded students and student groups to follow established procedures when seeking redress for their concerns.
“The Office wishes to remind all students and student groups to exhaust laid down procedures in addressing issues in accordance with regulations for Junior Members of the University,” the notice said.
Junior Members refers to students of the university.
As part of efforts to improve student welfare, the university said the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs was working with various units to provide support and promote a peaceful learning environment.
These include the Student Financial Aid Office and the Careers and Counselling Directorate, which are expected to contribute to initiatives aimed at addressing students’ welfare needs and improving their overall university experience.
The university said the interventions were intended to ensure a peaceful learning environment and a transformative student experience.
