The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana has concluded its 2026 Council Elections, with Dr. Isaac Nyame elected as President and COP (Mrs.) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah elected Vice President following an electronic voting exercise held on Friday, May 22.
The elections, which determine the leadership of the institute for the 2026–2028 term, featured contests for the positions of President, Vice President, and Council Members.
Dr. Isaac Nyame won the presidential race with 1,547 votes, representing 41.03 per cent of valid votes cast in a four-candidate contest. Prof. Dr. Dr. Frank Yao Gbadago placed second with 1,064 votes (28.22 per cent), while Thomas Kwesi Esso, FCA, EMBA secured 662 votes (17.56 per cent). Mrs. Agnes Otoo Yeboah obtained 497 votes, representing 13.18 per cent.
In the vice-presidential election, COP (Mrs.) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah secured victory with 1,931 votes, representing 51.21 per cent of the total votes cast. Her opponent, Prof. Redeemer Dornudo Yao Krah, received 1,840 votes, representing 48.79 per cent.
For the general council positions, Prof. Kingsley Opoku Appiah and Mrs. Akua Bonsu-Owu, FCA emerged with the highest votes, polling 1,957 votes (20.17 per cent) and 1,955 votes (20.15 per cent) respectively. Paul Kwasi Agyemang, FCA secured the third council seat with 1,370 votes, representing 14.12 per cent.
Other candidates in the council race included Victoria Sitsofe Ama Nipah, FCA, who obtained 13.46 per cent of votes cast, Mr. Anaamoatulim Anab, FCA with 11.47 per cent, Dr. Hamisu Mohammed with 7.58 per cent, Dr. Nicholas Nii Nortey Omaboe with 7.52 per cent, and Mr. George Nartey Owodo with 5.53 per cent.
According to official election figures released after the polls, voter turnout stood at 44.45 per cent. The institute indicated that 43.48 per cent of eligible members successfully voted, while 56.52 per cent were recorded as unable to vote.
The newly elected executives and council members are expected to assume responsibility for guiding the strategic direction of the institute over the next two years, with oversight of professional standards, regulation, and accounting practice development in Ghana.
