The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has announced guidelines for the two-day National Flood Aftermath Clean-up Exercise, directing institutions, businesses and residents in seven flood-affected regions to participate in the nationwide exercise from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026.

In a press release issued on July 9, 2026, the Ministry said the exercise is being undertaken on the directive of President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to facilitate the effective implementation of the national clean-up campaign following recent flooding.

According to the Ministry, activities on Friday, July 10, will involve all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), public and private institutions, security services, educational institutions, waste management companies, and the general public.

On Saturday, July 11, the exercise will focus on communities and residents, community-based and volunteer groups, security services, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies with the support of waste management companies, as well as the general public.

The Ministry further directed that, to ensure full participation and the effective execution of the exercise, all shops, markets, commercial establishments, corporate organisations and other non-essential businesses within the affected regions must remain closed between 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on both days.

It clarified, however, that institutions providing essential and emergency services are exempt from the temporary closure and are expected to continue operating.

The Ministry said the exercise forms part of government’s coordinated response to restore sanitation and improve environmental conditions in communities affected by recent floods.

Authorities have urged residents, institutions and businesses to cooperate fully with the exercise to support recovery efforts and help reduce the risk of future flooding through improved sanitation and waste management.
